Surfacing Alt-Text for Images on Twitter
TwitterAltText is a Chrome extension developed by davydm that aims to make the web more inclusive by providing alt-text for images on Twitter. Alt-text is important for people with vision deficiencies as it provides a description of the image, allowing them to have a better understanding of the content. Additionally, alt-text can also enrich the experience for sighted users by providing context to the images they see.
Currently, alt-text information is only surfaced when consuming Twitter through a screen-reader. This extension solves the problem by displaying alt-text for everyone, including sighted users. It makes it easier to tell what alt-text an image has, as images with alt-text are decorated with an [ALT] overlay. It also helps identify images that are missing alt-text, allowing users to contribute to making the web more inclusive.
Although TwitterAltText is an experimental extension, it works effectively. However, results may vary depending on individual preferences and needs.
